CWAG Elder Law Center – Medicare Part D
Integrated Communications Plan
When the federal government created a new prescription drug program for seniors through Medicare, the public was eager to sign up. But the process of signing up for Medicare Part D, which included almost 50 “options,” was complex and overwhelming. Flaherty & Associates worked with the Elder Law Center, part of the Coalition for Wisconsin Aging Groups, to design an effective public information campaign that engaged the public and provided support services for almost 2 million Wisconsin residents – a critical service that would ensure a smooth transition.
As part of the Medicare Part D team, Flaherty & Associates helped design and implement an integrated communications plan that utilized earned media strategies, grassroots mobilization, leadership and stakeholder training, the creation of internet-based and phone resources, community outreach and education, and message/collateral development. Reporters and editors statewide needed a credible, reliable source of information to help seniors understand and participate in Medicare Part D. The Elder Law Center's leadership, with our help, was extremely effective at serving as that source.
